Motihari: The joy of a wedding turned into grief when three members of a wedding party, including the bridegroom’s father and uncle, died in a road accident near Ghorasahan in East Champaran late Tuesday night.
Police said the speeding SUV dashed against a roadside tree near Mahadewa Masan chowk on Pakaridayal-Ghorasahan road, killing all the three on the spot.
The deceased were identified as Vinod Prasad (55), and his cousin Anil Prasad (40) and up-mukhiya Gajendra Das (40)—all from Rajepur village under the same police station.
Vinod, with his family members, were on way to participate in the wedding ceremony of his son at Ghorasahan.
According to eyewitnesses, the sound of the collision was heard from far distance in the night. Locals immediately rushed to the place but by then all the three had died.
Upon receiving the information, Ghorasahan police arrived at the spot, identified the bodies and transported them to local health centre at Ghorasahan. From there, they were sent to Motihari sadar hospital for the postmortem.
A pall of gloom descended on the family after the accident. The driver of the vehicle allegedly fled after the accident. Locals suspect that the driver could have been drunk, although police did not confirm it.
Police said preliminary investigation indicates that due to high speed, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The police are examining the nearby CCTV cameras to find how the accident happened.
